Osmania University
Named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, Osmania Universitycame into existence in 1918. It is the seventh oldest in the Country and third oldest in South India. Though the need for the University for the Hyderabad State was felt, both by the intelligentia and the people for a long time, the initiative came from a civil servant, Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the State Government.
Over a period of eight decades, the University has shown remarkable progress in all the departments. It has many distinguished alumni who have significantly contributed to the academic and economic development of not only the region but also of the country. Its alumni have distinguished themselves nationally and internationally in various spheres of life and are spread far and wide around the world.
Sir Hydari, in a memorandum to the Education Minister in Early 1917, emphasized the need to establish a University of Hyderabad with 'Urdu' as the medium of instruction "as it is the language of the widest currency in India, official language of the State, and it is a language which is understood by a vast majority of the population of the State."
The mission of the University is to achieve excellence in teaching and research and to create opportunities for the students to contribute to the national and regional development. There are currently 12 Faculties, 53 Departments and offers 27 UG Programmes, 68 PG courses, 24 PG Diplomas, 2 Research Programmes at M.Phil. and Ph.D. levels and 15 Certificate Programmes.

The Faculty of Arts was established in the year 1964 and composed of 15 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 18 PG Courses, 18 M.Phil., and Ph. D., Programs.
Faculty of Social Sciences:
The Faculty of Social Sciences was carved out of the Faculty of Arts in the year 1964 and composed of 7 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 8 PG Courses, 8 M.Phil., and Ph. D., Programs.
Faculty of Science:
The Faculty of Science was established in the year 1964 and composed of 14 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 18 PG Courses, 1 M.Phil., and 15 Ph. D., Programs.

Admission in Osmania University

MA, M.Com, M.Sc, M.Ed, M.P.Ed, MSW, M.Li.Sc & LL.M
Osmania University also offers MA, M.Com, M.Sc, M.Ed, M.P.Ed, MSW, M.Li.Sc & LL.M courses in various disciplines at PG level. Admission is offered on the basis of candidate’s performance in
OUCET. OUCET is a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Osmania University UG Admission

The university provides various UG courses in the departments of Arts, Science & Commerce. The application process begins in the month of April and the classes commence in June or July.
Osmania University B.Tech, B.E, B.Pharm, BHMCT & Pharm.D Admission
The admission to these programs is based on TS EAMCET. The application forms are generally available in the month of April.
For M.E., M.Tech programme, the admission will be granted on the basis of merit in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). GATE is a 100 marks paper with 65 questions. The questions are both MCQs and one word answer type. The candidates get 180 minutes to answer the questions. The paper consists of Technical, General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics section. Negative marking (0.25 marks) is applicable to MCQs only.
For admission to MBA and MCA, the candidates have to take the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET). The paper consists of three sections: Analytical ability, Mathematical Ability, and Communication ability. There are total of 200 MCQs. The candidates get 150 minutes to answer the questions.
Osmania University M.Phil & Ph.D Admission
Osmania University also offers M.Phil & Ph.D. programs in various disciplines. The basic eligibility is a pass in Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
