Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University

Established on 2nd December 1985, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, is a member of ‘Association of the Indian Universities’ and ‘Association of Commonwealth Universities. 

Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University offers higher education through its 7 Schools, 16 Departments and 5 Centres. University also manages the academic activities of 14 Government Music and Dance Colleges spread over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. 

The University is well known for imparting higher education in traditional dance, literature, history, language, journalism and fine arts with special recognition and cultural standards. It also offers masters and doctoral degrees in traditional and innovative courses through quality teaching and  research. Some of the non-conventional courses offered in  Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Telugu language, History, Dance, Music, Fine Arts, Jyotisham and Vasthu (UGC recognized), Performing Arts, Social Sciences, Folk Arts, Journalism and Comparative Studies.

Centre for Distance Education Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University

The Centre for Distance Education of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University was established in 2001. Today, it offers 16 Courses at Certificate, Diploma, Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels in specialized areas like Performing Arts, Language, Literature, Journalism, Astrology and Culture.

The Centre which started with 300 students, now has more than 4,000 students registered with it. The courses offered by the Centre are recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC).

Apart from the main campus at Hyderabad, the centre serves from four other campuses situated at Rajahmundry, Srisailam, Warangal and Kuchipudi.

Some of the innovative courses Post Graduate Course in Astrology (Jyothisham), Post Graduate course in Journalism (MCJ) in Telugu and need based PG course in ‘English Language Teaching.

Admission in Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University

The very first policy of admission in the University is that the candidates should have good command on the language. The University offers admissions of the applicants who hold the qualifying degree which is a must. The applicant should be having the requisite language as one of a subject in their earlier qualification.

Telugu University Library

Telugu University Library was established in the year 1985 in Osmania University campus and now each campus has an individual library. The Library is well equipped with books on subjects like Telugu language, literature, Linguistics, Fine arts, Astrology, Journalism, Culture, and Folk Arts. It has more than 1,00,000 books among which 55,000 are Telugu, 43,000 English and 5000 of other Indian languages. The library also maintains about 10,000 back volumes of various journals. Students and scholars also have access to rare and unique manuscripts on Palm leaves, Mackenzie manuscripts, letters of  C.P. Brown. microfilms of Telugu dailies Krishna Patrika  of  40 years (1902–1942), and Andhra Patrika of 26 years (1914–1940).

Personalities like Seetapati, Mallela Sriramamurthi, Kosaraju Raghavaiah, M.V. Rajgopal, Thumati Donappa, Vasireddy Seeta Devi, V.Raja Rao, Mateti Ramappa, P.N.V. Rao, Puranam Subrahmanya Sharma have donated valuable books to the library.

Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University Museum 

The university museum “Telugus through the Ages” depicts the cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from the earliest times to the present.
